Throughout Borealis, composer and live coder Thor Magnusson and writer Bergsveinn Birgisson will be holding a workshop on writing and sound at Lydgalleriet.
Dates and times: Morning sessions: 10:00-12:00 (8-10 March)
Afternoon sessions: 15:00-17:00 (8-10 March)
The workshop is open to independent artists and students and will engage with diverse forms of sonic writing like abstract poetry, sound-poetry or after-language poetry, textual musical notation, algorithmic notation, secondary musical notation, concrete poetry, and graphic notation. In addition to notating sound and language, participants will also make musical instruments, and consider how their design is a process of writing.
Sonic Writing welcomes participants from backgrounds of divergent practices – aiming at highly interdisciplinary approaches in thinking about writing sound, composing instruments, writing algorithms, speaking notes, drawing sound. Sonic Writing is part of a residence at Lydgalleriet where the artists will be developing a new work called Writing in the Wind, working towards a prototype of an interactive wind instrument to be installed outside at Strandir in North-West of Iceland.
There will be an open presentation session of the workshop on Sunday 12th March at 10.30, in which the public is also invited to pop by for an informal brunch.
