Back in Track is a video exhibition highlighting the bizarre as a thematic focal point, with sound as a narrative strategy. The seven artists come from different countries, each with its own artistic tradition: Norway, Sweden, England, Germany, Italy, the Isle of Man and Colombia.
Some of the works are boundary-pushing documentaries, where, despite narrative enthusiasm and good intentions, ethical issues are called into question. Tova Mozard's documentary 'The Wall' focuses on an American woman with an object fetish. She has an emotional relationship with the Berlin Wall and suffers lasting trauma after its fall in 1989. In Nim-Jo Chung's video 'Ben', we meet a hungry 17-year-old who robs an exclusive chocolate shop, leading to a lively police chase.
The works in the exhibition have a humorous undertone and master the art of telling the bizarre in a playful yet precise manner. Are the stories fiction, documentary, or something in between? What matters is the energy, which is impossible not to laugh at and surrender to, along with the determination and willingness to take risks that can only be taken within the context of art.
Back in Track takes place at Lydgalleriet in Bergen April 2007. The exhibition is a collaboration between curator Line Halvorsen, Galleri Rekord in Oslo and Lydgalleriet in Bergen.
