To celebrate Sámi National Day, Lydgalleriet hosts 2 days of listening to Nils-Aslak Valkeapää / Állohaš epic poetry collection “Beaivi, áhčážan” (The Sun, My Father).
Released over 4 CDs in 1992, and lasting nearly four and a half hours, Nils-Aslak Valkeapää / Állohaš sings, joiks and reads from his award winning poetry collection in combination with music and sounds recorded with long time collaborator Esa Kotilainen.
Born in 1943, Nils-Aslak Valkeapää / Állohaš is seen as a cultural icon and nation builder in Sápmi. He was an innovator of Sámi joik and visual art, as well as a Nordic pioneer in poetry, artist books and sound art.
