Psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst.

og,

LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK AT THE PEOPLE.

Duet/Songs is a recording of words imitating sounds based on machine-generated transcripts of insect communication. The text derived from sound recordings of insect calls by entomologist Liao Yi-Chang, these recordings were inserted into transcription software originally meant to transcribe human speech.

Among the recorded sounds were calls of plant lice that without amplification would be inaudible to the human ear. Some of these recordings were transcribed through software meant to transcribe human speech and translated into renditions such as:

Psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst, psst.

and,

LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK AT THE PEOPLE.

Vocalists: Pietari Skyttä and Katriina Virta.

Ananda Serné  is a Dutch artist based in Stavanger. She studied literature and linguistics, before obtaining an MA in Fine Arts from the Iceland University of the Arts. Through moving image, sound, language and textiles, her practice explores questions that touch upon translation, (mis)communication and (non)biological intelligence. Her work is often informed by conversations and collaborations with others, for instance with biologists, vocalists or translators.

PARABOL – in collaboration with Kunsthall 3.14 – Lydgalleriet selects a sound work for the parabolic loudspeaker sited in Kunsthall 3.14's entrance hall. PARABOL has a particular focus on sonic commissions and edits, and offers a mode of address corresponding with the exhibitions in the main upstairs spaces.
