A new, landmark exhibition by Bergen artist Maia Urstad that draws threads across, within and beyond her archive, re-incorporating sound and visual elements from a lifetime of groundbreaking sound work.
Across four decades, Maia Urstad has explored how technology stores memories, shapes landscapes, and leaves behind traces. In this new exhibition, radio, broadcasting, and other communication technologies serve as both material and motif, not out of nostalgia, but as a way to examine how we listen to the world, and how the world listens back.
Urstad’s work moves between sound installation, sculpture, and spatial compositions. Old radios, transmitters, and technologies long on their way out of everyday life are given new life as instruments, archives, and narrators. Her works are often understated, yet they open up spaces where time, technology, and memory blur together.
